Animals: The Heart and Soul of Our Company

SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment™ is one of the world's foremost zoological organizations and a global leader in animal welfare, training, husbandry and veterinary care.  The company collectively cares for one of the largest zoological collections in the world, representing more than 800 species of animals.  Animals in our care include certain endangered or threatened species such as the cheetah, Bengal tiger, West Indian manatee, black rhinoceros and polar bear.

We have made many pioneering contributions to the zoological community. Until the birth of our first orca calf in 1985, no zoological institution had successfully bred orcas. We have not collected an orca from the wild in almost 40 years. We care for the largest orca population in zoological facilities worldwide and today have the most genetically diverse orca and dolphin population in our history.  More than 80 percent of the marine mammals living in our zoological theme parks were born in human care. Our world-class standards of care, state-of-the-art animal habitats, and a commitment to animal welfare that spans more than five decades, have established our parks as global leaders in the zoological community.

The well-being of our guests, team members and animals is the top priority for our company. Our team members have been caring for animals for more than five decades and have amassed an expertise that is a resource for zoos and aquariums worldwide. Every animal receives preventative medical care, exercise, a nutritious diet and an environment that includes a wide variety of enriching activities.

Our work with these animals also contributes to greater scientific understanding of their species and advances the conservation of wild populations.
