Grey whale swimming in ocean

September 6, 2016

In recognition of National Wildlife Day last Sunday, Sept. 4, SeaWorld San Diego’s Rescue Team shared the story of J.J., the orphaned gray whale calf that was found dehydrated, hypoglycemic and comatose off the coast of California on Jan. 10, 1997.

Watch for more on J.J's rescue, the first of it's kind.

Thanks to years of experience working with stranded animals, SeaWorld's team of experts were able to care for J.J.

J.J. was returned to her ocean home nearly 20 years ago but her inspirational success story lives on with the experts involved in her rescue and the rest of the SeaWorld San Diego team.

Coral reefs are incredibly large, complex underwater ecosystems. Despite occurring in about 1% of the ocean, coral reefs are home to over 25% of all ocean life. They are formed over the course of millennia from coral polyps, and house thousands of unique and diverse species.
